MANILA – “Tired” of corruption in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte said he considers resigning.
In a speech in Malacañang on Tuesday, Duterte recalled telling soldiers and police officers during a command conference, “I want you to know that I am thinking of stepping down. I’m tired.”
The fight against graft and corruption “seems to be endless,” the President lamented.
Corruption has contaminated all levels of the government, Duterte stressed.
Recently the chief executive sacked government officials suspected of engaging in corrupt activities.
Duterte fired all officials of the state-run Nayong Pilipino Foundation for approving what he claimed as a “disadvantageous” property lease contract with a Hong Kong-based company.
He also dismissed several top officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center over allegedly fraudulent transactions./PN
