ROXAS City – Police have yet to identify the culprits who barged into the municipal building of President Roxas, Capiz.
“At least three suspects forcibly entered the building based on the footprints on the floor,” Mayor Recileste Escolin said.
The culprits used a makeshift stairway to enter the stockroom on the second floor of the building on Sunday, police said.
They destroyed the padlocks of the Municipal Planning and Development Office, the Environment Office, the Civil Registrar’s Office, and the Municipal Treasurer’s Office.
“The suspects were looking for documents. No equipment or cash was stolen,” Escolin said.
Caretaker Romeo Esmeralda said he saw the documents scattered on the floor of the offices the next day. Esmeralda reported to the police and the mayor.
Prior to this, Escolin had a meeting with the public market stall owners and some residents near the market area on July 28.
Escolin said the 10-hectare lot where the market is situated was donated by Luisa Locsin to the municipal government.
The stall owners and the residents were told not to pay rent to former vice mayor Alfonso Golero, Locsin’s land administrator.
“Probably some interested people were after the Deed of Donation. Maybe they overheard me during the meeting saying that I have a copy of the deed in my office,” Escolin said.
For his part, Golero said the lot donation “has no truth.”
“I have with me a copy of the land title. The Deed of Donation claimed by Escolin was not annotated in it,” Golero told this reporter.
