ILOILO City – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in SOCCSKSARGEN has brought its flagship trade fair, “Treasures of Region XII: A Christmas Trade Expo,” to Iloilo City for the first time, aiming to generate at least P10 million in sales while expanding interregional market linkages between Mindanao and Western Visayas.
Running from December 17 to 21 at SM City Iloilo, the five-day expo features products from 60 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City, marking the event’s maiden staging outside its home region.
DTI-12 director Florita Gabunales described the Iloilo leg as a milestone for the long-running fair, which she said reflects more than a decade of product development and enterprise support.
“This event showcases not only our products but also the spirit of our people,” Gabunales said, inviting Ilonggos to experience the distinct culture and craftsmanship of Region XII.
The expo highlights premium tuna products, artisanal food items, handwoven textiles, chocolates, and specialty coffee, alongside cultural performances, live demonstrations, and pocket events that underscore the heritage behind the goods on display.
Gabunales said the fair is designed to go beyond retail sales by fostering business-to-business linkages, securing bulk orders, and promoting Sultan Kudarat’s coffee as a high-value product in national markets.
The event carries the theme “Buy Local, Be Vocal,” underscoring DTI’s push to strengthen domestic value chains and provide MSMEs access to buyers beyond their home provinces.
DTI Region 6 officer-in-charge Ma. Dinda Tamayo welcomed the collaboration, framing it as a natural partnership between the two regions.
“We are more than partners; we are twins connected by a shared umbilical cord of culture, creativity, and warm hospitality,” Tamayo said.
DTI assistant secretary Leonila Baluyut likewise emphasized the strategic role of trade fairs in enterprise development.
“These events are not just about sales; they serve as essential platforms for market testing, product development, and establishing vital connections,” Baluyut said, urging MSMEs to maximize networking opportunities with buyers and potential partners.
Organizers said the Iloilo staging reflects DTI’s broader strategy of bringing regional products closer to major consumer hubs, positioning Treasures of Region XII as both a commercial platform and a cultural showcase that promotes resilience, sustainability, and inclusive growth among Filipino enterprises./PN
