ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas wants discussions on the two proposed ordinances of Councilor Johnny Young be put on hold.
These proposed measures limit the time for ambulant vending and the speed of bicycles.
The city mayor believes there is a need for the said proposed ordinances to be studied further.
“I’m not in favor, that’s why I requested to suspend hearing kay mas maayo gid nga matun-an because kinahanglan i-consult ta anay ang lain-lain nga sectors especially those which are affected,” said Treñas.
He noted that many bike enthusiasts are complaining about the proposed speed limit on bikes because they need to buy a speedometer.
Aside from bikers, the ambulant vendors also raised their concerns on the proposed limitation of vending hours.
Councilor Rudolph Ganzon, chairman of the SP’s committee on trade, commerce and industry, during the recent committee hearing, said they will focus on strengthening the existing Regulation Ordinance 2012-402 or “An Ordinance Regulating the Operation of Ambulant Stores in the City of Iloilo” by incorporating more regulations on ambulant vendors.
Imposing a time limit on vending is not necessary, he stressed.
“With the existing ambulant ordinance, dira na lang ta ma-strengthen. We will consolidate all suggestions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Young clarified he only based his proposed ordinance on the existing practice being imposed by the Special Services Division (SSD) under the Public Safety Transportation and Management Office (PSTMO) which allowed ambulant vendors to start selling their products from 5 p.m. onwards.
He also explained that he came up with the proposed measure because there were vendors complaining that others were invading their selling areas./PN
