BACOLOD City — A 53-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on September 29.
Police identified the victim only as alias “Tampol,” a married resident of Hacienda Beri in the same barangay.
The shooting occurred around 6:05 a.m. in Purok Señora, where the victim had reportedly stopped his tricycle and was talking with bystanders.
According to the Murcia Municipal Police Station, the victim was engaged in conversation when an unidentified man suddenly approached him, drew an unknown-caliber firearm, and shot him several times.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the head and other parts of his body.
The gunman immediately fled the area and escaped in an unknown direction.
The victim was rushed to the Murcia Health Unit for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police immediately launched hot-pursuit operations in surrounding areas to locate and apprehend the gunman.
Investigators are conducting follow-up inquiries to establish the identity of the suspect, determine the motive, and clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help identify the suspect to coordinate with the police./PN
