NUMANCIA, Aklan – Several unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered after a search warrant was served by operatives of the Numancia municipal police station to a tricycle driver on June 20.
But the suspect, 45-year-old Johnry Dalida Laurente of Laguinbanua West, denied he owned the recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The police operation was conducted at around 8 a.m. in Laurente’s home.
Police found a .22 caliber rifle with no serial number, a rifle scope, a .38 revolver with no serial number and four ammunition for a .38 revolver.
Search warrant EJ-04-22 was issued by Executive Judge Bienvenido Barrios,Jr. of the Regional Trial Court 6th Judicial Region on June 16.
Also recovered were six ammunition for a .45 caliber and four empty shells of a .45 caliber.
Numancia chief of police Major Fidel Gentallan said the police have been stepping up the campaign against unauthorised possession of firearms and ammunitions in the communities.
“May mga natanggap tayo na sumbong na ang suspek ay may ilegal na armas at madalas ireklamo ng mga kapitbahay kapag nalalasing,” the police official said.
Police also intensified “Oplan Bakal” operation in establishments to curb the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in Numancia, Aklan.
Laurente faces charges for violation of Section 28 of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013./PN
