BACOLOD City – Will the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) grant the request of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) in Barangay Cabug here for a new franchise?
Councilor Al Victor Espino, chairman of the SP committee on transportation and traffic, yesterday said if the member tricycles of Cabug TODA only ply within the vicinity of the Deca Homes, there is no need for a franchise.
“But when they are outside the subdivision they need to have a franchise. This is the reason why they are requesting for a new franchise,” added Espino who led the public hearing yesterday regarding the request letter of April Bantigue, president of Deca Homes South Bacolod Homeowners Association.
The councilor said the purpose of their request for a new franchise is to cater passengers from the subdivision, which has a population of around 4,000.
During the public hearing, TODA members had requested a franchise from Deca Homes to Bangga Triumph route.
However, Espino said despite the endorsement of Barangay Cabug council’s committee on transportation and public order, they still have to conduct a public consultation in the said barangay before deciding on the aforementioned request.
Presently, there are 300 tricycle units in existence in Barangay Cabug under three TODAs./PN
