Bacolod City—The Trillion Peso March across the Negros Island Region (NIR) on November 30, coinciding with Bonifacio Day, was generally peaceful, with no reported incidents, the Police Regional Office-NIR (PRO NIR) said.
In a statement, PRO NIR reported that the anti-corruption protests, dubbed the “Trillion Peso March,” concluded safely throughout the region, thanks to the deployment of 869 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel. Units included Civil Disturbance Management, Regional Support Services Force, Special Weapons and Tactics, Traffic Marshals, Area Security teams, Negotiators, and Investigators.
The PNP also coordinated closely with partner agencies such as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, and other force multipliers to ensure the smooth conduct of activities in all monitored areas.
In Bacolod City, two separate rally groups held assemblies before converging at the Bacolod City Public Plaza. The group from Lupit Church began at 11:50 a.m., departed at 1:15 p.m., and arrived at the plaza at 1:48 p.m. Meanwhile, the Capitol Lagoon group started at noon, departed at 1:12 p.m., and reached the plaza at 1:51 p.m., concluding their program at 4:29 p.m. Around 1,300 participants attended both assemblies, and all dispersed peacefully, the Bacolod City Police Office reported.
In Negros Oriental, police monitored a peaceful rally at Pantawan Boulevard in Dumaguete City from 3:29 p.m. to 5:39 p.m., with approximately 70 participants. No significant incidents were recorded.
PRO NIR assessed the overall situation as generally peaceful, noting that the security coverage was effective and well-coordinated. Regional Director Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay commended PNP personnel for their professionalism and extended appreciation to rally organizers, participants, and the community for observing safety and security protocols.
“The peaceful outcome demonstrates the shared commitment of law enforcement and the public to ensuring orderly civic engagement,” Ibay said./PN
