CAPIZ — Two student-athletes from Capiz brought pride to Western Visayas after winning medals in their respective events at the Palarong Pambansa Tu Agsur 2026 held at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Gov. D.O. Plaza Sports Complex in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on May 25.
Angelica Belandres captured the silver medal in the highly competitive Secondary Girls 100-meter hurdles, showcasing exceptional speed, technique, and determination against some of the country’s best young athletes.
Her strong finish reflected years of disciplined training and unwavering commitment to the sport.
Meanwhile, Angel Villagracia secured the bronze medal in his event, delivering an impressive performance marked by speed, agility, and resilience.
The achievements of Belandres and Villagracia highlight the growing strength of Capiz in athletics and underscore the dedication of local athletes striving for excellence on the national stage.
Their success has also inspired aspiring athletes across the province, proving that hard work and perseverance can lead to remarkable accomplishments.
The Provincial Government of Capiz, led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, lauded the young athletes for their achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots sports development programs to nurture future champions.
According to the provincial government, the victories of Belandres and Villagracia not only brought honor to Capiz but also reinforced the province’s reputation as an emerging force in Philippine sports.
The 66th Palarong Pambansa, dubbed “Palaro Tu Agsur,” runs from May 24 to 31 in Agusan del Sur.
The Department of Education in Western Visayas is aiming for either the championship or runner-up honors this year. With its largest-ever delegation of 1,023 athletes, coaches, and technical officials, the region hopes to surpass its third-place finish in last year’s competition under the banner “Stronger Champs.”/PN
