Two senior citizens arrested in Cadiz drug bust

BACOLOD City — Two senior citizens were arrested after they allegedly sold suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on August 18.

The suspects were identified only by their aliases “Boyet,” 62, married, and “Berting,” 65, both residents of Cadiz City.

The Cadiz City Police Station said its Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) conducted the operation at around 2:10 p.m. in East Proper.

Police said the suspects allegedly handed a heat-sealed transparent sachet containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for marked money, resulting in their arrest.

Authorities recovered six heat-sealed sachets containing suspected shabu with a combined estimated weight of three grams and an estimated street value of P20,400.

Also recovered were the P500 bill used as buy-bust money, a P100 bill believed to be proceeds from illegal drug activities, and other pieces of evidence.

The seized suspected drugs were turned over to the Negros Occidental Provincial Forensic Unit for laboratory examination.

The suspects remain in police custody while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, have been filed against them./PN
