ILOILO City – Two of the most wanted persons in Western Visayas were apprehended in separate operations in Iloilo province.

Alias “Arcee”, 47, a resident of Barangay Alibunan, Calinog town, was caught around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in Barangay Barasan, Pototan. He was the region’s No. 3 most wanted man.

Three hours later, the No. 4 most wanted person, alias “Rod”, 42, was arrested in his house in Barangay Alibunan, Calinog.

According to Calinog police chief Major Miles Dieron, both were charged with murder for shooting to death a businessman in the town’s Barangay Libot on May 22 this year.

Dieron said the victim identified as Joseph Sonza was on his way home onboard a motorcycle with his wife and children when the former was shot by the two suspects.

His wife and children were unharmed.

Witnesses positively identified Arcee as the triggerman while Rod was the motorcycle driver.

Dieron added that based on the information he gathered, Rod was a member of the defunct Chiva-Fajardo robbery group.

“When we received the warrant [of arrest] we immediately served to them and placed them behind bars,” Dieron told Panay News.

Colonel Bayani Razalan, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), acknowledged the accomplishment of his men.

“This arrest, made possible with the help of the community, demonstrates our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order, ensuring that those who break the law are brought to justice. I commend the dedication and hard work of our tracker teams and the invaluable support of the community for this successful law enforcement operation,” Razalan said./PN
