ILOILO – A family dispute turned deadly on All Saints’ Day, November 1, in Barangay Binulosan Pequiño, Calinog town, leaving a nephew and his uncle dead.

Major Myles Dieron, chief of the Calinog Municipal Police Station, said the confrontation between family members quickly escalated to violence.

He said the incident reportedly began when Edmund Cardioleta, 34, confronted Eugene Camarig, who was riding a motorcycle with his nephews, brothers JR and Alan Calderon. During an altercation, JR attempted to intervene, but tensions flared as Cardioleta allegedly drew a firearm and aimed for Camarig. The bullet missed Camarig but struck JR on his right shoulder, causing fatal injuries.

Witnessing his brother wounded, Alan reacted by drawing a knife and stabbing their uncle, Cardioleta, who later succumbed to fatal body injuries.

Dieron said Alan fled immediately after the incident, leaving Camarig wounded and in need of medical attention for a gunshot wound to his right arm.

Police failed to recover the firearm used in the shooting.

Alan remained at large as of this writing. Calinog police said a homicide case is expected to be filed against him./PN
