ILOILO City – University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos recovered from an opening day defeat with a five-setter escape over the University of San Agustin in the 24th University Games yesterday at the University of San Agustin Gym.


It was a fitting bounce-back for the Negros Occidental-based volleybelles following a heartbreaking defeat in the hands of College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers late Monday.


The Lady Blazers, on the other hand, surged to its second consecutive victory in as many games. It waylaid Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates which suffered its second straight loss.


De La Salle University Lady Spikers, meanwhile, made it two in a row following a 25-6, 25-11, 25-6 straight set triumph over Holy Angel University.

The Lady Spikers earlier swept Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion of Capiz on Monday.

In men’s volleyball, UNO-R suffered back-to-back defeats in the hands of Holy Cross of Davao College on Monday and College of St. Benilde Blazers on Tuesday morning.


University of St. La Salle-Bacolod cruised to victory over Technological University of the Philippines, while Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod was defeated by University of Perpetual Help-Jonelta.


In men’s basketball, Rommel Galvez scored on a game-winner as Central Philippine University defeated Rizal Technological University, 75-73.

Iloilo Doctors College, on the other hand, bowed to Pilgrim Christian College, 81-82./PN
