Unruly policeman jailed for threatening to kill superior

ILOILO – A policeman in Pototan town was arrested and detained for threatening to kill his superior after he was scolded for drinking liquor while on duty.

Patrolman Joerick Ace Ilisan was assigned at the Highway Police Assistance Desk (HI-PAD) of the Pototan police station.

He was arrested by his superior Police Major Ronnie Brillo at 1:15 a.m. on July 18 with the help of Special Weapons and Tactics cops.

Prior to the arrest, Ilisan and Police Corporal Esil Peñarubia, Pototan police station investigator, were caught by Police Major Nazer Canja of the Police Regional Office 6 drinking liquor inside the police station.

Peñarubia was conducting “surprise” inspection of police stations.

Brillo was not around during the Pototan police station inspection; he was at the wake of Police Staff Sergeant Jessie Pamado in Barangay Lumbo.

When Brillo came back to the station and learned about what happened, he took to task Ilisan and Peñarubia.

Ilisan returned to his HI-PAD post, fired his gun several times then went back to the police station challenging Brillo to a fight and threatening to kill him.

He was eventually subdued and a .9mm pistol was seized from him.

Brillo would be charging Ilisan with grave threats and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, regional police director, on the other hand, relieved Ilsian and Peñarubia.

“I will go hard on erring police officers shaming the Philippine National Police,” said Pamuspusan.

He ordered an investigation./PN
