Up for grabs: Nearly 5,000 job vacancies

ILOILO City – Nearly 5,000 job vacancies will be offered at the Labor Day Job Fair of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6.

With the theme “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino”, the 121st Labor Day celebration here will be held at Robinsons Place Iloilo on Mabini Street this Monday, May 1.

According to DOLE-6 director, Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr., there are 4,641 job openings for field collection officers, collection specialists, warehouse managers, sales consultants, heavy equipment mechanics, food handlers, accounting clerks, company nurses, recruitment specialists, delivery drivers, checkers, sales specialists, human resources assistants, marketing supervisors, accounting analysts, and creative design specialists, among others.

Fifty-six local employers, 15 business process outsourcing companies and two companies for overseas openings pre-registered for the job fair.

The number of job openings offered may still increase, according to Rodriguez.

As of Friday morning, 433 applicants pre-registered through https://bit.ly/2023LaborDay.

When going to the venue, jobseekers should bring their resumés and other necessary documents.

“Ako’y nanawagan doon sa gusto pang humanap ng trabaho, there will be a job fair in Iloilo,” Rodriguez said.

He is hopeful that participating companies or employers could at least hire 40 to 50 percent of the participating applicants at the job fair.

Different government agencies will also be stationed at the job fair venue to cater to queries or concerns.

Among the agencies that will participate are: the Department of Trade and Industry, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Professional Regulation Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Public Employment Service Office, Occupational Safety and Health Center and Employees’ Compensation Commission of the DOLE, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, PhilHealth, Social Security System.

The Philippine Army will also be accepting applications from those who want to apply and will be distributing dental kits; the National Bureau of Investigation will issue clearances; and Pag-IBIG will give out loyalty cards.

* Aklan Field Office – P1 million for 67 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN project

* Antique Field Office – P6.5 million for 988 beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Pay-out, Government Internship Program Stipend Pay-out, and Special Program for Employment of Students Stipend pay-out.

* Capiz Field Office – P4.1 million for 402 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN, TUPAD pay-out, and SPES stipend pay-out.

* Guimaras Field Office – P2.6 million for 418 beneficiaries for the KABUHAYAN Project and TUPAD pay-out

* Iloilo Field Office – P20.5 million for 3,314 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN Project and TUPAD pay-out

* Negros Occidental Field Office – P34.4 million for 6,591 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN Project, TUPAD pay-out, and TUPAD checks for ACPs.

Rodriguez said there will be a “Kadiwa ng Pangulo sa Manggawa” where farmers’ associations can bring their local products to the job fair and sell them for a lesser cost.

As of Friday morning, five DOLE-assisted projects with 10 exhibitors, 11 Department of Agriculture-assisted farmer’s associations with 23 exhibitors; and 14 micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises with 14 exhibitors confirmed participation.

Among the products to be sold are: Seven Cities or Alimodian agriculture cooperative products; Estancia dried fish and delicacies; Leon fruits, vegetables, and root crops; locally processed food; and products of DOLE-assisted projects./PN
