KALIBO, Aklan – To ensure better delivery of services, a measure to convert the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Class “D” District Office in Kalibo town into Class ‘C” District Office was filed in the House of Representatives on May 20, 2024.
Aklan 1st District’s Rep. Carlito Samson Marquez authored House Bill No. 10436 that seeks to upgrade the current classification of LTO Kalibo District Office.
He said upgrading the LTO Kalibo District Office into Class “C” would not only enhance service quality for driver’s license holders and increase revenue collection but also improve road safety and transportation efficiency in the region.
“With more resources and better infrastructure, the LTO Kalibo District Office can implement more stringent vehicle inspections, more comprehensive driver education programs and effective enforcement of traffic laws,” he stressed.
The LTO in Kalibo, like the central and regional offices, offers services including issuance of license and permits, vehicle registration, insurance, proper driver education, enforcement of land transportation rules and regulations, collection of fees from law enforcement violations and adjudication of traffic cases.
Marquez said the LTO Kalibo District Office significantly contributed to the P1.6 billion in regional revenues last year, primarily from the Motor Vehicle User’s Charge for vehicle registration renewals.
Once approved into Law, the Department of Transportation should include the operationalization of LTO Class “D” District Office in the agency’s programs and the initial funding of which should be charged against the current year’s appropriations of Kalibo, Aklan LTO Extension Office./PN
