MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and Adamson University Lady Falcons entered the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference semifinals with unbeaten records.

The Golden Tigresses flirted with disaster in the fourth set; it needed to comeback from a 19-21 deficit to prevent the run of the NCAA champions Arellano Lady Chiefs, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23.

Trailing by two late in the fourth, Kecelyn Galdones scored a hit as the two teams exchanged errors in the next plays.

Galdones again scored but Charmina Dino answered to tie it at 23 before Laure and Janna Torres scored back-to-back hits.

Ejiya Laure showed the way with 20 points off 17 kills, two aces and a kill block with 10 digs in her last game for the Golden Tigresses before she and head coach Kungfu Reyes fly to Thailand on Sunday to join the national team.

Galdones finished with 13 markers with all but one coming off kills and had nine digs. Torres posted 11 points including the game-clinching kill for the Golden Tigresses.

Meanwhile, the Lady Falcons cruised to a 25-13, 25-23, 25-13 win over also-ran Letran Lady Knights with Trisha Genesis and Ceasa Pinar finishing with 13 points each and combined for 21 of Adamson’s 37 attack points.

Setter Louie Romero continued her impressive outing. She dished out 27 excellent sets and added three markers for the Lady Falcons, which only dropped one set in their group stage sweep.

Completing the semifinals casts of the PVL Collegiate conference were UAAP women’s volleyball champions Ateneo Lady Eagles and College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers./PN
