UST beats UNO-R, gets Barotac football crown

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers bagged the crown of the Mayor Braeden John Q. Biron Inter-Collegiate Football Invitational Tournament after beating University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 2-0, on Tuesday at the Barotac Nuevo Football Field.

The Growling Tigers immediately made its presence felt with Conrado Dimacali connecting at the 10th minute before Glenn Thomas Ramos followed it up at the 29th minute mark.

The defense tightened since then with the Growling Tigers unable to widen its lead further while the Negrenses also struggled for its part to penetrate the defense of the UST.

Meanwhile, the Barotac Nuevo National Comprehensive High School-Palaro salvaged a bronze medal finish after defeating last yearā€™s champions Arellano University Chiefs, 1-0.

A 32nd minute conversion by Carl Franz Mahinay was all the Barotacnons needed to beat the Chiefs, which placed runner up to San Beda University Red Lions in NCAA menā€™s football finals recently.

Aside from the four semifinalists, also participated in the five-day football invitational were Western Institute of Technology and Central Philippine University Golden Lions./PN
