MANILA – The University of Santo Tomas beach volleyball team completed another season sweep. It ruled the women’s and men’s division of UAAP Season 82 beach volleyball at the Sands SM By The Bay in Pasay City.
Even with the graduation of Cherry Rondina, the Golden Tigresses extended to four years its reign in the women’s beach volleyball behind the tandem of Babylove Barbon and Gen Eslapor.
Barbon and Eslapor swept the De La Salle University Lady Spikers pair of Jazmine Nazareno and Ernestine Tiamzon to annex their seventh UAAP women’s beach volley tiara.
“Sobrang saya. Goal namin ma-defend ang crown. Nagawa po namin. Inaalay po namin sa UST, sa mga taong naniniwala sa amin at lalong-lalo na kay ate Sisi,” said Barbon, who was adjudged the MVP.
The Quezon, Bukidnon native added: “Ilan ding years siyang nag-champion kaya ayaw naming mabigo siya. Iniwan niya ang team na laging nagtsa-champion kaya kailangan naming ituloy na laging champion.”
Meanwhile, Tiger Spikers’ Rancel Varga and Jaron Requinton completed a 10-0 campaign, sweeping Far Eastern University Tamaraws’ Jude Garcia and Doy Barrica in the men’s championship.
The Tiger Spikers won its second straight crown, dominating the Tamaraws with an easy 21-11, 21-11 win in Game 1 before closing out with a 21-15, 21-19 victory./PN
