SAN JOSE, Antique – To eliminate unfair business practices, the Tradetown Market Vendors Association (TMVA) in this capital town campaigns for retailers’ compliance to fair trade laws.
The business sector should take an active role in complying with fair trade laws, according to Edilberto Jabili, president of TMVA based at the San Jose Tradetown.
San Jose Tradetown is one of the most progressive pubic markets in Antique.
TMVA has partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office in the conduct of activities promoting ethical business practices.
This is in line with the project “Provision of Support Mechanisms for San Jose Tradetown Operation” launched recently, said Jabili.
One of the activities was the establishment of a Price Monitoring Board in strategic locations at the Tradetown market with prevailing prices of goods being updated every day.
Another was the Timbangan ng Bayan available at the public market to make sure consumers get the right weight of goods being purchased.
DTI, the local government of San Jose and TMVA likewise conducted a massive campaign on retailers’ compliance to the Price Tag Law at the wet market and dry goods section.
Sustained information campaign on Price Tag Law, Standardization Law, Business Name Law, Consumer Act of the Philippines, particularly the Law on Weights and Measures, and Price Act of the Philippines, particularly the adherence to Suggested Retail Prices is being done to keep the consumers vigilant of their rights and well informed of their responsibilities as well.
