BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Negros Occidental is gearing up for the implementation of various livestock and poultry industry development programs in the province this year.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena and other PVO personnel met with the Poultry and Livestock Association of Negros Occidental to discuss national and locally funded projects, said Provincial Agriculturist II Joselito Jaballa.
Jaballa said the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration among the provincial government, the association and its members, city and municipal veterinarians, and livestock technicians and raisers.
Mainly the projects involved animal genetic development and animal diseases prevention and control.
Veterinarians and technicians in local governments serve as frontline implementers of the programs, Jaballa said.
“We are also working on further strengthening our collaboration with other departments, like the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, as well as volunteer associations and paravets,” he added.
In terms of animal disease prevention and control, the PVO is pushing for stronger operationalization of paravets, especially in conducting quarantine measures among local governments with ports.
The PVO already put in place this year’s implementation of other programs like unified insemination for large ruminants and swine, Jaballa said.
“Aside from maintaining our status as leader in terms of swine, free-range chicken and game fowl, we are also working on developing other commodities to further strengthen the local livestock and poultry industry,” he said. (PNA)
