BACOLOD City – Torrential rains caused waist-deep floods in several areas in northern Negros Occidental.

The rains started pouring down in the areas on Thursday night until yesterday morning.

The flooding forced Victorias City residents to evacuate their houses.

There were about 2,800 affected households in Victorias City, according to the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Barangay 1 recorded 483 households, or 116 individuals, to have been affected by flood while Barangay 3 has 460 households, Barangay 9, 968 households, Barangay 17, 65 households, Barangay 18, 30 households, Barangay 19, 264 households, Barangay 13, 102 households, Barangay 7, 269 households, and Barangay 4, 96 households.

The affected families were now staying in evacuation centers.

Some roads in the area were also closed yesterday due to the flood.

In Talisay City, flood also forced residents to move to evacuation centers.

The heavy downpour resulted to the overflowing of the Catabla Creek and Minuluan River which triggered floods in barangays 16, 2, 11, and 8 in Talisay.

Rain-triggered floods were also experienced in barangays Banago, Mandalagan and Sum-ag in this capital city./PN
