BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) reconstituted its membership with the addition of representation from civil society organizations and members of the People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB).
“You can be the watchdog of our police force,” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the CPOC chairperson.
The CPOC approved a resolution nominating the Amity Public Safety Academy, Inc., Bacolod Integrated Trisikad Operators and Drivers Association, and Banago Group of Small Fisherfolks Association; and former councilor Celia Flor from the women’s sector, Antonio Te from the civilian sector, and lawyer Jovim Entila, a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines as additional council members.
“We should be active in seeing to it that we are able to correct what has to be corrected within our police force,” Leonardia said.
He reminded members that the Bacolod CPOC in the past had consistently been nominated and became national finalist to the Best Peace and Order Council Award and that it achieved a certain standard and stature.
“I would like to focus on this because in a sense we are starting the Peace and Order Council again. I would like us to continue with that brand of service, stature and level of excellence. Our POC will continue to be there not because we are after the title but because we are after the quality of the council,” Leonardia told members.
He cited the role of the members as something that cannot be belittled. He urged them to be conscious when they go around the city and they see problems, to take note of it and input it on the next meeting or call the Department of Interior and Local Government if it needs urgent attention.
Leonardia counts on the active participation of members of the council, saying he doesn’t have the monopoly of good ideas and the peace and order council will be as good as its members. (PIA-Negros Occidental/PN)
