ILOILO City – The “Oplan Bulig Tubig Sa Syudad,” or rationing of city-procured water, commenced yesterday. Around 72,000 households from the 180 barangays of this city stand to benefit from it.
“We have a tabletop with the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and the South Balibago Waterworks, and we were able to establish the water flow for the full implementation of the water rationing starting tomorrow,” said engineer Neil Ravena, head of the General Services Office (GSO).
The water rationing is on top of the ongoing water distribution donated by the private sector in partnership with volunteer groups.
Metro Pacific Iloilo Water will deliver water to barangays in Arevalo and Molo districts, while the South Balibago covers the districts of Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao, and City Proper.
The delivery will start around 9 a.m. until around 6 p.m.
Ravena said the target to be delivered is 500,000 liters per day, but based on their theoretical computation based on individuals affected, they are supposed to deliver 696.9 cubic meters daily.
On Monday, May 13, the GSO head called on barangays to provide static tanks commensurate to their number of affected households.
For her part, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) officer Donna Magno said their office has been conducting briefings in barangays to prepare them for the rationing.
“The water that will be provided in every barangay is dependent on their tanks. As mentioned by the mayor, we encouraged barangays to procure (tanks). We’ve been emphasizing to them that this is not just a one-shot delivery. It’s going to be every day in the next three months,” Magno said. (Philippine News Agency)
