ILOILO City – A “well-orchestrated” security preparation made possible the peaceful staging of Dinagyang Festival, according to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
Senior Superintendent Remus Zachacias Canieso, city police director, also commended Dinagyang revelers for cooperating with the police.
During the two-day highlights of the festival on Jan. 21 and 22, ICPO had not monitored major incidents.
What were recorded were petty crimes, said Canieso.
These petty crimes included four alarm and scandal incidents, three theft cases, two cases of physical injuries, and a gun ban violation.
All the suspects were arrested and detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 1, said Canieso.
From the initial 3,606 police officers tapped for peacekeeping duties, the number of Dinagyang security personnel ballooned to over 5,000 during the two-day festival highlights.
These included Armed Forces of the Philippines troops, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams, village watchmen, students taking up the National Service Training Program, police interns, medical volunteers, and radio groups.
The National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Philippine Coast Guard also helped.
The ICPO imposed a three-day gun ban, too, from Jan. 20 to 23./PN
