Western Visayas rules Palaro para-games

ILOCOS Sur – After placing third in regular sports, Western Visayas stamped class in the para-games of the 61st Palarong Pambansa.

Blue Barons finished with 16 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals. Region 4-A (15-5-8) placed second, followed by Region 9 (12-3-2).

WV dominated swimming with eight gold medals – three from Jenny dela Cruz, two from John Rey Amolar, and one each from Ruel John Amolar, Ariel Alegarbes and Vincent Rectra.

Taking home swimming silver medals were Claire Calizo, Christian Montuya, Anna May Rico, Nicole Baniel, Remie Flores, and Rose Almirante. Montuya also had two bronze medals while Calizo had one.

The region also had four golds in athletics – two from each of Daniel Enderes Jr. and Rhena Gimarangan.

Winning silver medals were Alden Jimenez, Jade Dee Cortel, Angelica Barcelona, Edgardo Amisola Jr., Rodel Diaz, Christina dela Cruz, while bronze medal winners were Amisola, Gimarangan, Diaz, Bermonel Vidiot, Merry Cris Lopez, Ronilo Fabiana, and Althea Talavera.

Another gold came in bocce from the group of Roselyn Abella, Mcmerill Derama, Jericho Fermanes, and Wendy Servana.

The delegation also had a bocce bronze from Fermanez and a goal ball silver from Wilnard Domingue, Francis Salazar, Rugelyn Amongo, and Christine Dimo./PN
