WV places 3rd overall in Palarong Pambansa

ILOCOS Sur – Western Visayas took home a total of 146 medals – 46 gold, 45 silver and 55 bronze – for a third place finish at the close of the 61st Palarong Pambansa on Saturday.

The National Capital Region retained the overall championship with a 100-70-50 medal haul, followed by Region 4-A (Calabarzon) with 55-50-73.

Finishing behind WV were Region 7 (Central Visayas, 26-25-36) and Cordillera Administrative Region (25-22-23).

WV captured the gold medal in elementary boys football with a 2-0 victory over Central Visayas on Friday night at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium.

Antiqueña Hannah Magluyan captured two gold medals in secondary girls 8-ball and 9-ball while Iloilo City’s Abad Supena took home the 8-ball and 9-ball secondary boys golds.

Blue Barons also added another gold medal in swimming courtesy of Nheri Jana, Joan Perez, Andrea Seloterio, and Alexi Cabayaran in elementary girls freestyle relay. Alexander Quiton had the lone broze in elementary boys freestyle.

WV also had silver medals from tankers Seloterio; Moses Bito-onon; the group of Regan Garbanzos, Raymund Paloma, brothers Martin and Moses Bito-onon; and the group of Camille Belandres, Kyla Soguilon, Mary Louise Lacson, and Stefany Saac.

Allyah Eusalan added another gold for Region 6 in taekwondo open weight. Mary Angeline Alcantara and Shaianne Hojilla notched silver and bronze in bantamweight and featherweight, respectively.

In table tennis, the group of Khenz Justiniani, Nino Ronald Rey, Undrich Bautista, and Sean Villan won elementary boys gold, while Maria Belen, Dianne Flores, Mia Manguilimotan, and Ellana Tan had bronze on the distaff side.

Other silver medal winners were the secondary boys volleyball team; John Solinap, John Muesca and Reynel Canuto in sepak takraw juniors doubles; Ma. Isabel Orqueriza, Angelyn Ortiz, Rosalie Estillore, and Bernalyn Bejoy in 4x400m relay; Julio Zapata, Renz Lambating and Lawrence Lapu-os in boys poomsae; Kiana Alagaba in gymnastics; and the elementary boys basketball team.

Taking home bronze medals were the elementary boys volleyball team; Jey Anne Dieta in athletics; Trexie dela Torre, Annie Mercurio, Angelyn Ortiz, and Angel Ann Pranisa in 4x100m relay; Orqueriza in 800m run; Edna Magtubo in 1500m run; and the sepak takraw secondary girls team of Abegail Sinongsuhan, Nieva Jane Sajon and Ashly Delantar./PN
