MANILA – On Oct. 10, the wife of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog uploaded a photo on her Facebook account showing Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon and a few others having snacks with President Rodrigo Duterte.
The unedited caption accompanying the photo read, “Guessing time. What do you think Jeffrey Ganzon is telling Digong about Digong’s unfair comments and misconceptions of Iloilo City?”
It was unclear when the photo was taken but in April this year, Ganzon confirmed having a meeting with Duterte in Davao City and claimed he was made the President’s point man in Iloilo City.
Maria Victoria Mabilog clarified to Panay News via internet interview she was not insinuating that Ganzon was feeding Duterte with the wrong information.
She was merely asking a question and nothing more, she stressed.
The Mabilogs are currently abroad but Maria Victoria, a Canadian citizen, declined to say where they are exactly. They left the country last week of August.
“If I have the chance like (Ganzon’s) to be in the same table with the President, I will not squander the opportunity or hesitate to tell him that he had been wrong on so many things about Iloilo City,” Maria Victoria told Panay News.
Duterte branded the city “most shabulized” and a “bedrock” of illegal drugs. He also repeatedly accused the Iloilo City mayor of being a drug protector.
“If you care about your own President, (you) would be concerned of the volume of fake news and fake data (he) uses in his numerous off-the-cuff statements against Iloilo City,” said Maria Victoria.
She then reiterated that her husband’s conscience was clear.
Law enforcement agencies such as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Police Regional Office 6 have reported about having no proof on Mayor Mabilog’s alleged ties to drug traffickers, said Maria Victoria, but the President kept on accusing her husband.
She did not say when Mabilog – on an extended leave until the end of this month – would return to Iloilo City.
“We don’t need to clear the air. Conscience is clear. A clear conscience does not guarantee life and safety. It only guarantees everlasting life,” said Maria Victoria.
In April, Ganzon revealed the President summoned him to a meeting in Davao City in March 27.
“The President said he did not have a point man in Iloilo City but acknowledged the help of several Ilonggo doctors during last year’s elections,” said Ganzon, son of the late senator Rodolfo “Roding” Ganzon.
One of the groups that supported Duterte was the Family Physicians Association and according to Ganzon, his elder brother Dr. Denfield Ganzon was the group’s president.
The President reached out to him right after the elections, according to the councilor.
“The President asked me if I have a derogatory record especially in graft and corruption and illegal drugs. I told him I don’t. Sa baba ‘ya mismo naghalin nga, ‘Ikaw lang da himuon ko nga tawo,’” said Ganzon.
The councilor said he assured the President he won’t be embarrassed taking him in.
“I have never been involved in graft and corruption,” said Ganzon.
The councilor said he and the President shared the same advocacies – federalism, war against drugs, graft and corruption.
