ILOILO City – A whistle bomb exploded on the right hand of a 13-year-old boy from Barangay Poblacion Tabuc, Mambusao, Capiz.
John Michael Nuñez was wounded on the thumb, a police report showed.
Nuñez was taken to the Mambusao District Hospital for outpatient treatment after the incident at around 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Whistle bomb was one of the firecrackers prohibited by law, along with piccolo, super lolo, goodbye earth, and atomic big triangulo.
Health officials and law enforcers were campaigning for the prevention of firecracker injuries during the New Year revelry.
Firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices may be lighted only at designated firecracker zones, and only those allowed by law – Republic Act 7183 – may be sold and used, they said./PN
