ILOILO City – On March 24 the city government will fete 14 Ilonggas who have excelled in their chosen field of endeavor.

The search for this year’s “The Outstanding Women of Iloilo City” (TOWIL) under the city government’s Gender and Development (GAD) program highlights the celebration of Women’s Month.

The selection was spearheaded by the GAD team and the Committee on Women and Family Relations of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).

This year’s TOWIL has 14 categories – government service; volunteerism/community service; professional service; non-governmental organization; media, journalism and public information; judicial service; science and technology; culture and arts; religious sector; protective service; persons with disability; philanthropic works; education and academe; and business/entrepreneurship.

This year’s awardees are the following:

* Cynthia Lumampao

* Punong Barangay Marjorie de Asis Gregorios

* Atty. Sharon B. Millan

* Mona Liza S. Diones

* Lilibeth A. French

* Judge Ma. Yolanda M. Panaguiton-Gaviño

* Dr. Carmela Pedroso Peñalosa

* Anne Catherine Malazarte Sr.

* Ma. Lourdes Verzosa, D.C.

* Jail Officer 2 Pearl Joy P. Lasangue

* Yolanda S. Jabano

* Ma. Pia Paz Gan Uygongco

* Carmencita Y. Robles, and

* Jane Uy.

The annual award is presented to women who have brought pride to Iloilo City and have made significant contributions in their chosen fields.

They will receive a plaque with a replica of the “Lin-ay sang Iloilo” – a symbol of Iloilo’s rich history and culture mounted atop the dome of the city hall.

 

The 18-foot bronze statue that weighs about 1.7 tons was rendered by Ilonggo artist Edward Defensor. It was unveiled on Aug. 25, 2011 to coincide with the 74th Charter Day celebration of Iloilo City. (PNA)
