MANY from the league believe that a certain PBA team, which entered only a few years ago, will be on its way out soon as it constantly faces problems in settling the contracts of their players and coaching staff.
A source told the Buzzer Beater that several former and current personnel (players and coaching staff) are still hoping that one day the disgruntled PBA team will payout what is due left in their contracts.
“Nung unang taon pa lang nila sa liga madami nang mga kwento ang naglalabasan na kesyo ‘yung mga players hindi nababayaran ng tama, pati na ‘yung mga coaching staff nila,” said the source.
“Ang siste kasi sa kanila, papirma sila ng papirma ng mga bagong players, kahit middle of the conference, tapos pag feeling nila hindi magfi-fit sa sistema o kaya na-injured, bibitawan na lang nila,” said the source.
“Siyempre mga nakapirma ng kontrata ‘yun at dahil wala namang ibang PBA teams ang pumick-up sa kontrata nila, natural maghahabol ‘yun sa team at obligado silang bayaran dahil pinapirma nila.”
“Dun na nagsisimula ‘yung problema kasi ayaw na nilang i-honor ‘yun,” added the source. “Ganundin dun sa mga coaching staffs, hindi pa tapos ang kontrata binitawan na lang.”
“Tapos mahahalata mo rin na parang hindi sila pumasok sa PBA para manalo eh. A few years ago, sakanila ‘yung No. 2 pick nakuha nila malakas na player tapos kinabukasan, pagkatapos ng draft, ipinamigay nila agad sa ibang team.”
“Yun nakuha naman nila dun sa team na ‘yun, in fairness, malalakas din at nadala pa nga sila sa playoffs kamakailan lang. Pero ang siste, yun dalawa naman ang pinakawalan ngayong bago mag-Philippine Cup kapalit ng mga reserba.”
“Sige nga sa pinaggagagawa nila naniniwala ka ba na tatagal sa PBA ‘yang team na ‘yan? Nagbibilang na lang ng taon ‘yan at lulubog na rin sa baha ‘yang team na ‘yan,” the source ended.

The University of Santo Tomas is slightly ahead in the seniors’ general championship race with six championships at the close of the first semester of the UAAP Season 79 late last year.
The Tigers, which is gunning for its 41st overall crown, is up by 12 points over its closest pursuer, reigning champion De La Salle University with 161 points. The Green Archers have 149 points.
UST claimed the titles in the men’s and women’s division of the beach volleyball behind the pairs of Cherry Rondina and Jem Guttierez and Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto.
UST also dominated the judo event with the Tigers bagging a league-best 12th men’s title while the Tigresses won their third straight women’s championship – and ninth overall – led by Negrenses Khrizzie Pabulayan and Sueko Kinjho.
UST has also claimed championships in men’s taekwondo and men’s table tennis. They also had three second place finishes in women’s taekwondo, poomsae and in women’s table tennis.
DLSU, which is hoping to claim its third overall title in four years, has three first place finishes, including the men’s seniors basketball crown behind Jeron Teng and Cameroonian import Benoit Mbala.
At third place is the University of the Philippines with 123 points, while the Ateneo De Manila University is at fourth with 117 points and the National University has amassed 109 points.
Completing the eight-team field are Far Eastern University, which is sixth place with 78 points followed by the University of the East and Adamson University, which have 67 and 47 points, respectively./PN
