ILOILO City – A woman was arrested in a mall in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao district for transacting with a stolen credit card.
Elena Elera, 47, of Fortune Town, Barangay Stefania, Bacolod City was temporarily residing in Barangay Rizal Pala-pala, City Proper. She was detained at the Mandurriao police station.
Mandurriao police chief Captain Val Cambel said the suspect was arrested at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, after the mall’s Customer Relations Service (CRS) called the police for assistance.
Complainant Laila Tacan, 48, of Barangay North Fundidor, Molo sought the assistance of the mall’s CRS to hold the suspect after the latter was caught using Tacan’s credit and identification cards to purchase jewelry in a pawnshop inside the mall.
“The suspect was caught in the act of deliberately using the victim’s credit card. Before sya na-arrest, nag-appear sa cellular phone number ng biktima na nag-purchase ng mga medicines sa pharmacy sa sulod mall worth P7,500 using (Tacan’s) credit card. Later, another message appeared that Tacan’s credit card was used to purchase jewelry items, which is why na-locate ang suspect,” Cambel said.
He added: “I believe gin kawat ang credit card kag identification card sang biktima.”
The suspect will be charged with theft and violation of Republic Act 8484, the law regulating the issuance and use of access devices, prohibiting fraudulent acts committed, and providing penalties for other purchases./PN
