For the second consecutive year, Panay News, Western Visayas’ leading daily, has been named Best Editorial Page at the 2024 Community Press Awards of the Philippine Press Institute, held June 27, 2025 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel.
Awards are often seen as milestones. For this paper, the recognition is something more: a validation of purpose.
The PPI, in its citation, lauded the paper’s editorials as “persistent, well-written, and to-the-point,” noting their dual role — celebrating local and regional gains in economic growth, culture, education, and governance, while calling out institutional neglect, public service failures, and lapses in infrastructure and accountability.
The editorial section, long regarded as the “voice” of a publication, plays a crucial role in shaping civic awareness and public discourse. According to the PPI, Panay News stood out for its ability to contextualize local issues within broader national conversations while remaining firmly grounded in the realities of the region it serves.

The editorial page was likewise praised for initiating critical conversations on politics, environmental sustainability, and heritage preservation — areas often underreported in community journalism.
The Philippine Press Institute described Panay News’ columnists as “the chroniclers and conscience of Western Visayas” — a distinction earned through independence and a willingness to engage readers beyond headlines.

Beyond the editorial page award, Panay News was also a finalist for Best News Website for Visayas — reflecting its expanding digital presence and continued investment in reaching broader and younger audiences.
In 2024, the paper was likewise cited for excellence in reporting on migration issues, as well as business and economic reporting.
The Community Press Awards, organized annually by the Philippine Press Institute with support from partners such as Nickel Asia Corporation and Hanns Seidel Foundation, honors excellence in community journalism across the country.
