ILOILO City – Crime volume in Western Visayas dropped by 43.32 percent during the five-day closure of cemeteries from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 when Ilonggos were supposed to observe Undas.
According to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), 174 crimes were recorded. In the same period in 2020, there were 307.
For the eight focus crimes, PRO-6 logged 22 incidents this year, a 53.19-percent drop from last year’s.
“We have no major incidents because we intensified our anti-criminality campaign and public safety operations,” said Police Lieutenant Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson.
The PRO-6 deployed thousands of police personnel to strategic areas across the region such as cemeteries, ports and transport terminals among other places of convergence.
Police assistance desks were also established.
Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, regional police director, commended the local government units and force multipliers like barangay officials and peacekeeping action teams for their cooperation./PN
