ILOILO City – Donations of Western Visayans to displaced families in Marawi City coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) already reached P915,000.
The donations included food items, clothing, beddings, hygiene kits, and medicines, among others, from government agencies and private individuals or groups.
DSWD assistant regional director for administration Evangeline Felicio said the donations were sent in three batches.
The first batch amounting to P70,000 from the “Tulong Kabataan” was shipped on June 24, a month after the Maute terrorist group attacked Marawi.
The DSWD regional office in northern Mindanao, particularly in Iligan City, received the donations for Marawi evacuees.
The second batch worth P195,000 was shipped on Aug. 12. The items were donated by the Development Bank of the Philippines, Police Regional Office 6, Regional Highway Patrol Unit and the Land Transportation Office.
Another batch of P650,000 worth of donation from the Department of Agriculture 6, Philippine Navy and the Department of Education in Iloilo City and Passi City was shipped last month.
Feliciano expressed hope that DSWD Region 6 would receive more donations to help the victims of the Marawi conflict.
At present, 89 displaced families from Marawi are in Region 6. Some 40 families are in Iloilo City while 49 families are in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The validation of other internally displaced persons and families is still ongoing, said Felicio. (PNA)
