ILOILO — Police arrested Western Visayas’ Top 1 most wanted person in a tightly coordinated operation in Tubungan, Iloilo, dealing a major blow to child sexual abuse crimes in the region and underscoring authorities’ hardline stance against fugitives accused of exploiting minors.
The suspect, known by the alias “Salde,” a 45-year-old married farmer from Tubungan, was captured at around 12:16 p.m. on January 7, 2026, at Sitio NN, Barangay Sibucauan, following the implementation of a court-issued warrant by the Tubungan Municipal Police Station.
Salde faces three counts of qualified rape involving a minor, a non-bailable offense under Articles 266-A and 266-B of the Revised Penal Code, in relation to Republic Act No. 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
The arrest warrant was issued by Branch 67 of the Guimbal Regional Trial Court on January 5, 2026.
Police Brigadier General Josefin Ligan, regional director of the Police Regional Office 6, lauded the arrest and stressed that fugitives accused of crimes against children will inevitably be brought to justice.
“This operation sends a clear message: there is no hiding place for criminals who exploit and harm our children. I commend our officers for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and resolute commitment to justice,” Ligan said.
He said the arrest was critical in protecting vulnerable members of society and restoring public safety, adding that cases involving child abuse remain a top priority for law enforcement.
Following his arrest, “Salde” was taken into the custody of the Tubungan police station for booking and documentation and will be turned over to the appropriate judicial authorities for further proceedings.
Ligan also urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities involving children, emphasizing the role of communities in preventing abuse.
“Together, we can create a safer environment for all. The local police are here to listen and act upon any information that can help us eliminate such threats,” he said.
