ILOILO City – West Visayas State University’s Cultural Center was abuzz with glamour as it hosted the dazzling Mr. and Ms. COE 2023 pageant on Oct. 23, 2023. The spectacle, which drew over a thousand spectators, saw nine chic pairs from the College of Education (COE) strut their stuff in a battle for the crowns.

Crafted with the finesse of a national beauty pageant, the Education Student Council-led event – with the full support of the COE Faculty and Staff headed by the Dean, Dr. Ricky M. Magno – showcased a lavish production with top-tier staging, lighting, and sound, thrilling the audience.

Prof. Esperval Cezhar H. Cadiao, student council adviser and visionary behind the event, said, “Having been shaped by pageantry myself, it was my aspiration to offer our contestants an extraordinary stage experience. We’ve ensured that every detail reflected the highest quality, upholding the College of Education’s standard of excellence.”

The pageant’s judge panel sparkled with the presence of fashion designer Jet Salcedo as chief. Pageant luminaries Paolo Martin Abcede, Blessie Villablanca, Sharon Idone, and Carl Jibri Sia rounded out the selection committee.

The evening commenced with an energetic production number, featuring contestants adorned in attire inspired by deities. This was followed by a playsuit segment, showcasing the women in blue outfits and the men in white muscle tank tops paired with blue shorts. The casual wear round presented the contestants in pastel hues, setting the stage for the highlight of the evening – the formal attire competition featuring the designs of Jet Salcedo.

Nico Leguro (second year student from Majors of Values Education) and Ma. Alessandra Huyaban (first year student from the Special Education Students’ Association) were crowned Mr. and Ms. COE 2023.
