Yasay, Briones leading CPU awardees

ILOILO City – Foreign Affairs secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. and Education secretary Leonor Briones will lead the achievers the Central Philippine University (CPU) will recognize during the 2016 Alumni Homecoming and General Assembly at the Rose Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Centralians who brought pride to their alma mater will be honored by the CPU Alumni Association, Inc. and the university president Dr. Teodoro Robles, said the association president Daniel Dorillo.
Yasay earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree from CPU in 1967. He was a senator in the CPU Student Republic.
Briones, on the other hand, received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in public administration from the university this year.
Other newly appointed Cabinet officials to be cited are Hansel Didulo, assistant secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Hope Hervilla, assistant secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development; Edward Dy Buco, deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Customs; Remelyn Recoter, director of the DA Region 6; and Rex Estoperez, spokesperson for the National Food Authority.
Four House representatives will be recognized, too: Ferjenel Biron (4th District, Iloilo), Richard Garin (1st District, Iloilo), and Horacio Suansing (Sultan Kudarat) and wife Estrella (Nueva Ecija).
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. and Vice Gov. Christine of Iloilo province, and Gov. Daisy Avance Fuentes of South Cotabato will be cited as well.
Five Provincial Board members, 13 mayors, four vice mayors, and five city councilors in Iloilo will also receive certificates of recognition.
The homecoming has the theme, “Living the Central Spirit Beyond Borders.”
For the first time, the CPU alumni association will recognize and gift a certificate and cash to its 11 board topnotchers.
An “achiever’s award” will also be given to Vanessa Ann Caro, who won Miss Dinagyang 2016; Vanessa Tse Wing, Miss Paraw Regatta 2016; and Daziella Gange, Miss Philippines Heritage/Miss Heritage International. (PNA)
