THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Visayas grid under yellow alert on Tuesday, August 5 — the second alert issued this week — due to the increase in demand, with some power plants suffering outages.
The yellow alert was placed from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Under a yellow alert, there is still enough supply in the grid to meet demand, but that there will be power interruptions in case a plant breaks down.
In the case of the Visayas grid, the NGCP said available capacity was 2,889 megawatts (MW), while the peak demand was pegged at 2,489 MW.
The Luzon and Mindanao grids, on the other hand, were under normal condition. (Lisbet K. Esmael © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
