YOUNG boxers showed promise in the multi-category age-group boxing tournament held Tuesday afternoon in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district in line with the Iloilo City 80th Charter Day celebration.
Jerome Pretos Jr. and Artju Reugo of San Pedro, Molo dominated the 29kg and 49kg categories, respectively, beating their foes Ted Cabisan of Baluarte Elementary School and Jalal Nassan of Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS).
Mandurriao National High School’s (MNHS) Jober Degabe and Vincent Cris Diochosa ruled over their foes in 34kg and 38kg Nilson Infante of MNHS and Robin Jay Torato of ICNHS, respectively.
Ritch Sudario and Florence Aberaldo of Ramon Avanceña National High School (RANHS) also scored victories in 48kg and 51kg, defeating Joaert Divino and Francis Casumpa, both from ICNHS.
ICNHS’ Edwin Carmona (31kg) and Leo Francisco (47kg) won over Jason Garbo of Molo and Joshua Delos Santos of MNHS, while South Fundidor, Molo’s Julan Ruego (45kg) and Christian Barbola (44kg) edged RANHS’ Charles Penaflorenda and Justine Argar.
Other winners were Momer Lastimosa of Mandurriao Elementary School in 32kg against Dan Mark Miraflores of MNHS, and Dan Rey Rengo of Fundidor I in 30kg over Marco Magbanua of Molo Elementary School.
The winners received P500 each while the losers took home a P200 consolation prize each, according to Rommel Castro of the Iloilo City government’s Sports Development Division.
The winners will defend their age-group titles in the next event in November.
Age-group boxing is one of the Charter Day sporting events scheduled this month. Age-group futsal tournaments will be held July 29 at the Iloilo City National High School gym and the Fitfill National Weight Loss program will be on July 31 at the Iloilo City Hall./PN
