JORDAN, Guimaras – The youth is “the future of our island,” said Gov. Samuel T. Gumarin.

Gumarin spoke during the 50th founding anniversary celebration of the Guimaras State College on July 4.

The state college’s “long decades as an educational institution … empower the youth,” said the governor.

According to Gumarin, the only state-run higher education institution in the island province has “vigor for education” and “social involvement,” and has become “a seed of development.”

“In the past 50 years, the seed has become a pivotal element in fostering Filipino values toward building the human capital and innovation capacity of our province,” he said.

Gumarin pointed out that the day was also special for the entire Guimaras.

“This year is a year that we Guimarasnons must celebrate,” he said.

“Manggahan Festival turned 25 and the [Guimaras State College is] on its 50th (anniversary),” said Gumarin. “This links the significance of our local culture and the academe sector toward long-term development as we [envision] becoming the agri-ecotourism capital of the region.”/PN
