BACOLOD City – Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), deployed some of his personnel to augment the Moises Padilla police station in transporting Vice Mayor Ella Celestina Yulo and husband Felix Mathias to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
The Yulos will file their counter-affidavits in relation to the drug and illegal possession of firearms and explosives cases filed against them on Dec. 21.
Police caught the Bacolod City-bound couple on board a Mitsubishi Strada at a checkpoint in the boundary of Moises Padilla and La Castellana towns on Dec. 19.
Guns, grenades and sachets of shabu were seized from the Yulos, said the police.
Castil said he issued the directive to his mobile patrol personnel on Tuesday.
According to Castil, it is now Moises Padilla police station chief Senior Inspector Allan Reloj’s call to accord the couple with their rights to file their counter-affidavits.
Castil issued the augmentation order as a response to Reloj’s complaint that the municipal police station does not have enough manpower to transport the Yulos.
Castil also said the couple’s legal counsel requested for Nocppo’s assistance.
As of press time, the Yulos were still detained at the lockup facility of the Moises Padilla police station.
The day following their arrest, the Yulos underwent a drug test. They tested negative.
The vice mayor earlier claimed in interviews that police officers “manhandled” them upon arrest.
Reloj denied this, saying his men followed standard operational procedures.
Ella Celestina also said the guns and grenades recovered from them were licensed and the drugs were “planted.”
Castil has earlier created a fact-finding team to look into the allegations.
“The fact-finding committee will consider all angles of the investigation,” Castil said in a statement./PN
