BACOLOD City – Councilor Caesar Distrito urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to give the public “a clear explanation” on the spate of robberies and other criminal offenses in the city.

“I urge the BCPO to investigate the incidents and give the public a clear explanation,” said Distrito.

He also hopes that the crimes will be resolved as soon as possible.

For the past weeks, robberies were reported in the city and neighboring cities of Talisay and Silay.

BCPO said the notorious Arnold “Aki” Cuadra robbery group was behind these criminal acts.

BCPO director Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky ordered the arrest of the group’s members after a business man and her daughter were held up in front of their house at Capitol Heights in Barangay Villamonte around 8:30 p.m. on July 25.

In a resolution approved on Aug. 15, Councilor Ricardo Tan recommended that BCPO deploy officers to “strategic areas” and “engage civilian volunteer groups.”

Businessmen also offered cash rewards to anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of the robbery group and other crime groups.

On Aug. 19, a dismissed police officer, Federico Nicolas, was killed in a shooting in Barangay 16.

Nicolas was on board a car with Police Officer 1 Wilmer Bansag and the latter’s 17-year-old son when suspects – who the police believed to be drug group members – fired at them repeatedly.

Bansag and his son were wounded.

The BCPO will conduct a “thorough investigation” into the shooting, Wanky said./PN
