BACOLOD City – A 20-year-old resident of Barangay Tangub who was just released from detention was sent back to jail for allegedly holding up a taxi driver.

John Paul Mahilum was earlier detained at Police Station 4 for theft.

An hour after he was released on Monday, he was again arrested and hauled to the detention facility of Police Station 8. Now he is facing robbery and physical injury charges.

From the Bacolod City Police Office in Barangay Taculing, Mahilum boarded the taxi driven by Rogelio Isgana, 59, of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, and asked to be taken to Gardenville Subdivision in Barangay Tangub.

At Gardenville, Mahilum, who was at the backseat, pointed a stainless knife on the neck of Isgana and declared holdup, a police report showed.

Isgana handed his P1,820 fare collection to Mahilum but tackled the latter and sought help from bystanders, police said.
Officers seized from the suspect the knife and the cash.

Isgana complained of body pains. He said Mahilum bit him on the left index finger.

Mahilum sustained injuries on the body when the bystanders attacked him./PN
