Two girls drown in San Jose beach

SAN JOSE, Antique – Two girls drowned while swimming in a beach in Barangay Mojon in this capital town.

Police identified them as Jennylyn Sumande, a 14-year-old student of San Pedro National High School and Eryn Joy Palermo, an eight-year-old student of Mojon Elementary School – both residents of Barangay Mojon.

They went out to the beach for a swim along with their two minor companions. Sumande and Palermo allegedly went to a deeper portion of the waters.

Companions noticed their disappearance around 9 a.m. on Oct. 2. They searched for them in vain.

Sumande and Palermo’s bodies were eventually found hours later.

They were rushed to the Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital (ASMGH) here but the attending physician declared them “dead on arrival.”/PN
