BACOLOD City – All firecrackers and pyrotechnics may be sold only at the back of the Pope John Paul II Tower, along Rizal Avenue at the Reclamation Area.
And Mayor Evelio Leonardia is harnessing his office’s power to ensure that no such products can be sold anywhere else.
The designation of the area for the sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics was contained in Memorandum No. 202.
Malls, including the one at the Reclamation Area, are not allowed to sell firecrackers and pyrotechnics.
Those interested in selling firecrackers here should pay city hall P1,500 — P1,300 for the business permit and P200 for garbage collection.
Only traders who have complied with all the standards and requirements will be allowed a space at the designated area.
Products sold in areas other than the designated area will be confiscated.
Leonardia has assigned Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, chief coordinator for the Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force, as point person for matters related to the firecracker trade.
Pineda must tap the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the City Legal Office (CLO) in ensuring the proper regulation of the trade, and the BCPO-Traffic Management Unit and the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office for traffic management in the area, said the mayor.
The point person shall also work with the Permits and Licensing Division in making sure all permits and licenses are duly applied and paid for, and with the Department of Public Services in keeping the area clean.
A composite team comprising representatives from the Office of the City Mayor, BCPO, BFP, Permits and Licensing Division, Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force, and CLO will crackdown on unauthorized sale, Pineda said./PN
