BACOLOD City – A flash flood forced 65 families in Barangay 17, Victorias City, Negros Occidental to evacuate their homes Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Heavy rains from the hinterlands in Silay City and EB Magalona town may have triggered the flooding, according to Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca.
The affected families returned to their homes when the water subsided a few hours later, said the mayor.
There were no reported casualties or injuries.
Seven rivers crisscross Victorias, said Palanca.
When it rains heavily in the mountains, the low-lying barangays 6, 17 and 21 get flooded, the mayor said.
One way to avert any flooding is by restoring the city’s “dead creeks” so that water from the fountains would have other areas to flow through, Palanca said./PN
