11 arrested for illegal fishing

BACOLOD City – Eleven fishermen were arrested on Tuesday in Hinigaran and Binalbagan towns.

In Hinigaran, the Bantay Dagat under Senior Inspector Gerard Bathan, officer-in-charge police chief of the town, identified the fisherman as Gaming De La Cruz, 52, a resident of Barangay Enclaro in Binalbagan town.

He was fishing in the sea waters of Hinigaran using a pump boat owned by Rodel Tuba when he was arrested for violating a municipal ordinance around 2:30 a.m.

His fishing net trawl was confiscated by Bantay Dagat.

Around 11:05 a.m., John Paul Sapata; Ricardo Penosa, 28; and Archie Escotal, 26, all residents of Sitio Tugbungan, Barangay 2, Hinigaran, were also held for violation of the municipal ordinance.

Their fishing boat named F/B Nday Nee was seized by authorities.

Meanwhile, the Binalbagan maritime police and Bantay Dagat also arrested two fishermen for violating section 18 of municipal ordinance No. 2012-02 or use of active gear while fishing.

Nabbed around 8:40 a.m. in Barangay San Juan were Toy Gomez, 51, and Ramon Parto, 52, both residents of Sitio Tugbungan in Barangay 2, Hinigaran.        

Their fishing boat, F/B Bebe Joy, was intercepted by the maritime police and Bantay Dagat.

Their fishing gears were also confiscated by authorities.

The same violation was incurred by fishermen Ronie Nombre, 40; Sammy Budoc, 33; and Gregorio Geaca, 37, all married and residents of Barangay Saraet, Himamaylan City. They were arrested around 10:13 a.m. the same day in Barangay Canmoros also in Binalbagan.

In Barangay Enclaro, Binalbagan, two other fishermen were intercepted for violating the same municipal ordinance.

Albe Narciso, 56, and Ricky De Guzman, 54, both residents of Barangay Aguisan in Himamaylan City, were arrested around 10:44 a.m./PN
