BACOLOD City – A former army intelligence officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion was shot dead on Monday by three alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Canlaon City.
Ronie Montejo, 59, a resident of Sitio Samaga, Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, sustained five gunshot wounds.
Five empty shells of a .45-caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
Police Chief Inspector Wilfredo Alarcon Jr., Canlaon police chief, said the victim’s history as an intelligence officer may have been the reason of the killing.
The suspects fled after the incident.
Witnesses also said the suspects told the residents that Montejo was their only target and even shouted “Mga NPA kami” before fleeing.
Reports disclosed that the three unidentified men waylaid the victim while he was about to go to his farm.
The victim’s residence is near the Canlaon City police station which used to be the detachment site of the 11th Infantry Battalion./PN
