ILOILO City – Twelve persons were injured in a road accident involving three motor vehicles – a pickup, tricycle and van – in Barangay Tatoy, Miag-ao, Iloilo.
The pickup hit the tricycle after colliding with a van on Tuesday, according to Chief Inspector Norlan Perante, Miag-ao police chief.
Eight of those injured were youngsters below 18 years old and passengers of the tricycle driven by 47-year-old Ronnie Gemotea who was himself injured.
The three others injured were Ma. Lily Editha Espora, 31; Roldan Mangbanua, 21; and Rafael Molejona.
According to Perante, the accident happened around 6:45 p.m. The van driven by Vicente Muel, 32, of Barangay Santa Barbara, Igbaras, Iloilo collided with the pickup driven by Ignacio Espina, 50, of Barangay Bacong, Dumangas town while overtaking the tricycle. The force of the collision then hurled the van back to the tricycle.
Perante said the victims were taken to various hospitals in Iloilo City.
“The driver of the van did not see the pickup running in the opposite direction,” he said.
Van driver Muel and pickup driver Espina were taken to the Miag-ao police station after the road mishap. They were released yesterday. None among the injured persons have so far filed complaints against them as of this writing.
